Eye Surgery

So if I can come up with another $2000 that would be too grand (hehehe puns, all I got from Ryan was "that's bad")

March 2 will see me in a little room getting zapped for about 10 minutes to correct my vision to maybe better than 20 20. Right then. Yikes.

Apparently I have thick enough corneas (I wonder where else in my life I am going to use that information) and that is what you need for LASIK. ZYOPTIX LASIK to be exact. right then.

no other news except that getting your eyes dilated is a very weird experience and that freezing drops sting but you don't feel the large jiffy marker like object with an eraser like end poking in your eye, so they're worth it. odd to say the least.

Forwards...

I know you've probably all gotten this in an email... but I like it...

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine. I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible. How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word "refrigeration" mean nothing to you? How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television? I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, "How about going to lunch in a half hour?" She would gas up and stammer, "I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain." And my personal favorite: "It's Monday." She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because North Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect! We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college. Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of "I'm going to," "I plan on," and "Someday, when things are settled down a bit. When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy. Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to......not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?
Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask "How are you?" Do you hear the reply When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, "We'll do it tomorrow." And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say "Hi" When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.... Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is

"Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!

Another Day in Kines

630 came too early today.
The 8 am class of mind sciences focused today on motivation. Different motivations for different groups of people to begin or stay a part of a fitness regime. I can't help but wonder how I am paying 500 bucks for information that I gained in 6 weeks teaching an SLC fight. It's like one of those posters... "Everything I ever needed to know I learned in the Air Cadet Program." I should make one of those.
I have an evaluation coming up at work in about a month. I get to take home the marking guide and mark myself, then give it back to management so they can mark me. Apparent'y I have "nothing to worry about 'cause I'm a superstar." Coolio.
But in the world of piles of movies ( and I mean piles... about 100 to get shrink wrapped and another 100 to label, 100 to put away and 100 to check in...) Iwonder if one can ever really get ahead. Just when something starts to get under control, chaos ensues somewhere else. Kinda fun and challenging if you look at it through fresh eyes.
Speaking of fresh eyes, Lasik today. I'm supposed to go to work about 30 minutes after my appointment is done, but I have been counselled that my ability to see after I am given the dialating drops will be slim to none, so we'll see if my work rating suffers a no-show/ very late show. In my own defense, I did ask for it off...
and speaking of time off, (I'm good at that joining paragraphs thing eh) I should phone Rob and see if I still need next weekend for the snowcave campout. Considering the complete lack of snow here, I may just stay home and see if Benders nieces can come out. I got a whole pile of books from my mom as she was packing that I hadn't seen in awile. And a new toothbrush head. Mmmm, vibrating skull...
well I should be reading a text or sumthing...
wish me luck in the eye department!

Spring Courses

So here is the theory... English 240, the intro to english that all english everything take, and knes 473, one of the craziest knes courses as far as work load goes, in the spring. gotta check out when camp actually is this year. went to the applpication website and surprise surprise it's not up and running yet so that will all have to wait. plus, don't tattle, but i may or may not have missed some of my flights from the spring and need to log those to know exactly how many hours I actually have.
The spring courses would be Mon Tues Wed Thurs stating at 8 am... fun for the whole family. That would be two more down in the race for a degree that I somehow feel that I am losing. It's like I just keep finding more classes I need to take and more things I want to do. So the Eng 240 is a precursor to an english minor I'm still not _really_ enrolled in, but I should stop by the english department sometime soon and have a chat with the hopefully nice people down there.
This is really all in the hopes that some random person will offer me the chance to do my PhD in Scotland sometime in the future...

Work Ethic, OR Am I a Farm Kid?

I hope no one takes this as a rant, but more of a vent.

I have come to learn over my 23 years that I am a hard worker. I am not perfect by any means of the word, and I know all the things I need to work on in my life, but a work ethic is not one of them. Maybe we thank my parents for making me do the dishes after dinner, or clean the bathroom once a week. Maybe it was cadets, making me responsible for myself and my subordinates, that gave me the need for completion and near perfection of the things I do. Maybe some people are just born with it, have it as a part of their personality.

I have found that it brings out the best and the worst in people.

I wonder what it is that is in a person that makes them see me and either a) complain that I make them look bad and find more reason to slack and complain or b) follow my lead and take pride in what they do.

I think Bender said it best when he was speaking with people at work about who WJ would hire if he were on a interview board. He simply said "People with the heart of a farm kid." And there it is. All the qualities we wanted; hard working, respectful, willing to make sacrifices, and the ability to take direction (without feeling insulted) were there. But how many farm kids are left. Sure you get the odd one that has the heart and was just born in the wrong postal code, but who is out there bringing our these qualities in people?

I can tell you one thing though, there are a few different reasons why Olds Sqn has been top squadron so much.

So there I was...

The weekend was pretty good. Watched Two for the Money (I'd give it 3, maybe 3.5 stars) and Lord of War (more like 4 stars) over the last couple days. Went shopping on Monday, and for someone who doesn't like being a girlie I fully enjoyed myself. My favourite addition to the closet is a shirt that says "On the eighth day God made beer so that the Canadians wouldn't take over the world." Love it. And a new belt, which unfortunately doesn't have my name on the back of it. I do have a brand new John Deere shirt though, I think Bender sees the farm girl in me as he picked it out.
Oh, and go to Tristan and Isolde. Went Monday night and it was great. Kinda a love story with lots of chaos. Think Romeo and Juliette meets, well, Kingdom of Heaven or King Arthur. Liked it oodles.
Had the fantastic relaxation and stretching class today... apparently I have normal to better than normal flexibility in all the joints we tested. Odd.
Bender has decided that I should run in the (Get this) Worldwide Airlines Road Race. I think it's in some crazy European city this fall... so Once I'm signed up I will have no choice but to train like a mad woman!
More excitement... I am going to Lasik on Monday the 30th for the preliminary testing...YIKES I'M SCARED!!
What else... oh Mom, thanks for the gift cards to Starbucks, it was the best white hot chocolate I've ever had!
CIAO!!

YEAH SNOW

Woke up to a fantastic carpet of snow and it was still coming down as Judy and Kyle and I walked to the train at about 7:30. Haven't quite decided whether I enjoy the early morning get a lot done thing or if it will be short lived and soon enough I will be grumbling about it. Although I have noticed the whole not a ton of people on the train thing is nice, and they do come every five minuted that early...

These are a couple of the many pics from the Roughies/Bombers game that we went to on Labour Day that hadn't made it off of the digital camera until I got this new 'puter. Top, me and R, nice hair eh? Bottom, C, who I believe is currently in HAWAII (ahh to be a flight attendant) and I had the spirit... good times had by all.

Belated Christmas Party

Well I'm not going to talk about the pic, it just makes me 99%happy and 1% jealous... or is it 99%jealous and 1% happy... stupid people with born perfect vision!

ANYWHO, won a K2 snowboard and bindings, a hat, Ladder 49, a shirt, highliters and Family Guy playing cards at our belated Rogers Christmas party last night. The board was a draw from the team that had the most fun. Well, we were having fun and were loud about it, so it was us and I was the lucky goof whose name was drawn.
Don't know if it's mine or R's yet... I guess we'll have to phone a friend and see how big a snowboard is supposed to be to "fit" someone... anyone? anyone? Bueller?

School

So here I am at the University of Calgary with about 2 years left for a Kinesiology degree, and two years after that for teaching in Alberta. Silly Alberta, I think it's only one year in BC.
I'm outside of a huge theatre that will contain my human physiology class in about 10 minutes... I'm guessing about 500 people give or take a half a brain.
I have to thank my parents for the laptop they gave me for Chirstmas/Birthday, as they will probably only see me use it for blogging and loading MP3 players, and will just have to trust me that I am using it for studying too. Won't be a problem, as it's about a 20 minute minimum wait for a computer in our library and now I can just plug 'er in and go.
Well I should go try to get a decent seat, front 20 ish rows... you think I'm joking but it's sadly true. Off I go to learn all about blood! YUM! BEFORE LUNCH!!

It Starts...

I guess it had to happen eventually... and now that I got a video camera for Christmas, WATCH OUT!!
